ICC World Cup 2019
Match 24 - England Vs Afghanistan
Too many records in a single match
Cricket is like watching a thriller movie, we cant say when a record can be created or broken. Many records was created a long back and might take several years to broke. Like Bradman's 99.99 average still not yet broken. And few records wont sustain even for 24 hours like South Africa chased 435 runs against Australia. In world cup also we witnessed lot of record. But a match which created many records and broke many records will happen only in a high scoring match. Such a kind of match played between the world no1 team England with the world no 10 team Afghanistan. We wont tell the result of the match as you know. England beat Afghanistan by 150 runs margin.Bairstow (90 runs), Joe Root (88 runs) , Eoin Morgan (148 runs) and Moen Ali (31 from 9 balls) helped England to set a target of 398 to Afghans. But the poor Afghans can able to score only 247 runs at the end of 50 overs.
Here we are going to see how many records created by both teams in this match.
1. Eoin Morgan scored 17 sixes in his innings, which is the maximum sixes scored by a batsman in both ODI as well as in world cup.
2. Eoin Morgan scored 102 runs from sixes alone. He is the first batsman in ODI to achieve this record.
3. Morgan scored 118 runs from boundaries in his total 148 runs, that is almost 80% of his score came from boundaries.
4. Rashid Khan gave 110 runs from 9 overs, which is the maximum runs conceded by a bowler in world cup. Remember he didnt complete his 10 overs.
5. Rashid Khan became the expensive (in terms of conceding runs) afghan bowler after this match surpassing his team mate Dawalat Zadran's 101 runs against Aussie.
6. Rashid didnt bowl his 10th over, because of that he lost the record of most expensive in ODI by a short of 3 runs.
7. In 100 runs, rashid didnt bowl even a single wide or no ball which is also a record.
8. Both England and Afghanistan smashed 33 sixes, this is the maximum number of sixes smashed in a world cup match till today.
9. Moen Ali puched Afghan bowlers by scoring 31 runs from just 9 balls with 4 sixes and 1 boundary with a strike rate of 344.44, which is the maximum strike rate by a batsman in WC 2019.
Man of the Match: Eoin Morgan
We should not blame afghans, they tried their best against the best team. Even they batted the entire 50 overs and score 247 runs with 8 wickets loss. Scoring nearly 250 runs in this kind of match is too difficult. Afghans did it. This 150 runs win kept England at table top with 1.82 as net run rate. Now Afghans were mathematically out of tournament. Will wait till tomorrow whether South Africa will join with them or not.
