Top five giants in International Cricket
In the ongoing world test championship tournament, series between India vs Windies was getting high attention around the world more than THE ASHES. Its just because of the man Rakheem Cornwall "the giant player in cricket". Giant???? yes he is just 26 years old but weighs 140 Kg stood at 6 ft 5 inches. Really giant na???? Cricket is one among the few games played by some fat players. In this post we are going to see top five giant players in international cricket. Cornwall may be in Windies test squad against India, but till today (23rd Aug 2019) he has not played his debut match in International cricket. So we didnt include him in this list. In case if he made debut in second test match in the ongoing series, he will be the heaviest player who played international cricket.
1. Warwick Armstrong (Australia) 133kg
We have seen many Australian players with 6 pack only like watson, johnson, symonds etc., Have u ever seen an aussie cricketer with chubby belly??? then see Warwick Armstrong. Warwick played cricket for Australia in the earlies of 20th century from 1902 to 1921. He played 50 matches for Australia. Between 1920-1921 he lead the Australian team, under his captaincy aussie won the Ashes cup against England with a clean sweep 5-0. ICC honoured him by including his name in hall of fame in the year 2000. Warwick was also called as "The Big ship" and sometimes even "Big Six" too.
2. Dwayne Leverock (Bermuda) 127kg
Dwayne Leverock, the world will never forget this name and this fat guy. Looks like an impossible cricketer from the Bermuda soil took an astonishing catch of Robin Uthappa in ICC world cup 2007 against India. Bermuda, the small country played only one world cup that too in 2007 as a co host. Before the starting of that tournament many told Bermuda will lose all the three league games against India, Sri lanka and Bangladesh. The same thing happened as they expected. Moreover India posted the highest ever total in world cups 413/5 against this team. But apart from these incidents, Leverock alone made his foot print just by a catch. The 127 Kg fellow made a dive at slip and caught the ball with one handed. Entire cricket world got stunned by his catch.
3. Richie Kaschula (Rhodesia) 126kg
Richie Kaschula of Rhodesia grabs third spot in this list. Rhodesia???? many of us have not heared this country right..... Yes its exist, before 1979 its is a unrecognised state in South Africa. Later many of the portions got merged with other countries. That portion now called as Zimbabwe. Kaschula played for his country between 1970 to 1972. He took 196 first class wickets with an average of 25. Kaschula received South African best cricketer award in 1972.
4. Colin Milburn (England) 121kg
Finally a british cricketer in this list. Colin Milburn played cricket 3 years from 1966 to 1969. Made his debut against West Indies and ends his career against Pakistan. His retirement reason is very pathetic. Colin met with an accident after his last test match and it affected his eye sight much and forced to retire him from cricket. He scored 654 runs in just 9 test matches with 46+ as his average.
5. Inzamam Ul Haq (Pakistan) 103kg
Any introduction needed for this guy???? Nope, cricket world knows him very well. One of the greatest batsmen produced by pakistan till today. Inzamam looking like a chubby boy but smashing boundaries like a giant. Because of that only he scored 83 half centuries in his ODI career. Cricket commentators used to call him as potato. He looks like potato and many peoples loved him. As like other heavy cricketers Inzamam also faced issue while running between the wickets, thats why he used to hit only boundaries.
After seeing the above players we should understand being fat doesnt means you cant achieve. Many over weight guys achieved alot in all the fields. Here is just a sample inside cricket world. Apart from the above still many over weight players are there like Jesse Ryder, Ramesh powar, Arjuna Ranatunga, Shane Warne etc., Its all about your will power and interest towards your passion.
