Top five cricketers who scored maximum test runs in a calendar year

test cricket

Test matches is the real meaning of cricket. Its not easy to play test matches for a player who is expert in T20 and ODI. The real challenge is this five day match. It needs patience, endurance, right choice of shot selection, right ball to play. A player should know which ball need to leave rather than which ball need to play. Of course test matches teaching those techniques. If anyone asked you who is the highest run scorer in test matches? Obviously everyone will answer "its Sachin". Even those who dont know about cricket also will say in a guess as Sachin. That much impact he created in cricket history. But if we ask who is the top test scorer in a calendar year? Many of us started to think about world's greatest test batsmen.

Dont worry here is the answer for the above question. In this posts we are going to see the top five cricketers who scored maximum test runs in a calendar year. Will go from the bottom. Keep on guessing who is at the top.

5. Sachin Tendulkar (India)

First shock of this list, Sachin Tendulkar grabs fifth spot. The man who gave identity to the game cricket and the man who scored maximum runs in test & ODI cricket standing at fifth place in this list. Little master scored totally 1562 runs from 14 matches in the year 2010. He scored 7 centuries, 5 half centuries which including 2 double century in that year. He also scored ODI double century in the same year against South Africa. The surprise thing is he achieved this at the end of his test career. It means he showed his peak performance at the age of 37. No wonder why fans call him as God of cricket.

4. Michael Clarke (Australia)

Former Aussie captain Michael Clarke grabs fourth place in this list. This right hand Kangaroo has scored 1595 runs from 11 matches by playing 18 innings in the year 2012. He scored just 3 half centuries in this year. Because Clarke is busy in scoring hundreds. The Aussie skipper scored 1 triple century against India, 3 double centuries and 5 centuries in this calendar year. Its not easy for a captain to lead his team as well as to scoring like beast as a batsman. Clarke balanced both well as like his preceders Ricky Ponting and Steve Waugh.

3. Graeme Smith (South Africa)

Graeme Smith, one of the finest batsman from African soil grabs third place in this list. Without any doubt we can say Smith is the greatest South African captain of all time. In the year 2008, he scored 1656 runs from 15 matches with an average of 72. In this year alone he scored 6 centuries and 6 half centuries in test cricket. Smith also scored his double century 232 runs against Bangladesh in the same year and scored a marvelous century in the difficult bouncing pitch of Perth.

2. Sir Viv Richards (West Indies)

Legendary batsman Sir Viv Richards of West Indies stands at second in this list. Sir Viv has scored 1710 runs from 11 matches in the year 1976 with an average of 90. He almost scored big numbers in all the countries he played in this year. He scored 7 centuries which includes 2 double centuries and 5 half centuries in this year. Viv Richards has scored his highest score 291 in this year only. Surprising this legend scored too much runs in those days itself, it took around 30 years to break this record. Lets move to the first spot to know who broke this.

1. Mohammed Yusuf (Pakistan)

Its very hard to see a complete batsman from Pakistan who can play well in both formats. Mohammed Yusuf aka formerly known as Yusuf Youhana is the best batsman among them. I think he is the only player from Pakistan having zero hater. Such a discipline batsman tops in this list. In 2006 he broke the record created by Sir Viv Richards in 1976. Yusuf has scored 1788 runs from 11 matches with an average of 99.33, this average reminds everyone a name Sir Don Bradman. Yes Yusuf played like Bradman, scored 9 centuries and 3 half centuries in 2006.

Till today those 9 centuries is also the maximum test century scored by a batsman in a calendar year.

Records are always created to broken. If one creates a  record someone will break in future. Do you think who will break this humongous record created by Mohammed Yusuf? Leave your answer in the comment section
