Match 43: KKR Vs RR Post Analysis

Captains knock at Eden Garden

Knight Riders from Kolkata faced Rajathan Royals at their home Eden Garden in a must win game. As like previous years the strong KKR started this season with consecutive win. Especially Andre Russell form gives tension to bowlers. But KKR faced consecutive defeats in the last five matches they played. Even their owner King Khan also posted in twitter that "We cant expect always Russell to win the match". In some matches Rana supported in few matches Lynn play a promising knock. Apart from that other KKR batsmen didnt shine well in this season. On the other side after resigning captaincy Rahane back to form with his century in last match. Even Smith also came to form with back to back half centuries after taking captaincy.

In that situation Kolkata started to bat first at Eden with Chris Lynn and Subhmann Gill. After a long break Varun Aaron back to IPL this time for RR team and Oshane Thomas back to RR squad. He bowled the exceptional first over picking Lynn for a duck. In 5th over Aaron back with a bang this time he took Gill for 13 runs. Varun Aaron picked 2 wickets for 10 runs in his first 3 overs. Such a good comeback for him. Then Rana and DK played slowly to build partnership. Rana gone for 21 runs to Gopal. Sunil narine came a head of Russell and lost his wicket for 11 runs. Then the beast Russell came with rotating his left arm. It seems like still its paining in his left wrist. RR players dropped 2 catches for Russel. In that Binny drop is the easiest catch. Third time he mis judged the ball but this time Riyan Parag never missed it. Russel gone for 14 runs only. Then DK played a perfect innings as a skipper.
Till last ball of last over he stayed at crease and scored his IPL best 97 runs from 50 balls with 7 boundaries and 9 sixes. His strike rate is around 194. What a batting from Dinesh Karthik at No 4.

DK @ Dinesh Karthik started his innings very slowly. First 5 balls he scored zero. Then in 20 balls he scored 28 runs only. But in the remaining 30 balls he scored 69 runs. In his innings he kept 19 dot balls. Still he played many wonderful shots. No words can describe his perfect innings. He deserve a century today but balls not there. The way he accelerate the innings was such a beautiful cricket. Because of him KKR finished with 175 runs at the end of 20 overs.

Then Rajathan Royals started the chase with Rahane and Sanju Samson. Both started the chase with a superb opening partnership. They scored 53 runs from 5 overs. Sunil Narine striked Rahane with a lbw. In next over Piyush Chawla departs Sanju Samson. Both the RR openers scored 34 runs and 22 runs respectively. In next over Sunil Narine striked once again by picking the RR skipper Steve Smith for 2 runs. Ben Stokes and Riyan Parag saved RR for next 3 overs. But again the partnership was broken this time its by Piyush Chawla he removed Stokes for 11 runs. Piyush also took Stuart Binny in his fourth over. Superb bowling by Piyush he finished with 20 runs with 3 wickets from 4 overs. After that Assame Riyan Parag and Gopal played brilliantly and didnt make lag in their chase. One more superb innings from Riyan Parag which helps Royals to reach their home. Riyan gone for 47 runs from 31 balls which is a much needed innings for royals in this match and he went out by hit wicket. Royals win the match with 4 balls spare.

Knight Riders faced their 6th consecutive loss with this match. In first half of this season RCB faced 6 consecutive defeats in this season now its the turn for KKR. This makes KKR playoff dream to an almost end. Its another match when any of batsman from losing side scoring big. Overall this day is completely for Dinesh Karthik for his all time remembrance knock.
