Mother of Coincidence.....Will the 1992 world cup history repeat???
The match between two Asian biggies Sri lanka and Pakistan at Bristol were abandoned yesterday due to rain. This is the first ever match in 2019 world cup was called off due to rain. Because of this each team received two points. Still we are going to make this article just to share many interesting and coincidence about this world cup.
More than Sri lankan fans Pakistan fans expected this match. Because they know Pakistan had better side and better form in this world cup than Sri lankan side. So they expected a big win which gives 2 points to them and had many chances of increasing their run rate which went to down to earth at the match against West Indies. But rain disappointed pakistan fans too much. But they have some positive points with the result of this match. Lets us discuss about that.
As of now Pakistan played 3 matches with 1 win, 1 loss and 1 No result match. They lost their first match against West Indies, then bounce back and won against West Indies, an abandoned match against Sri lanka yesterday.
The biggest coincidence of 1992 WC with 2019 WC is
1. Both tournaments was played in Round Robin method. Means no kind of group each team has to play once with other teams.
2. In both world cups Pakistan faced West Indies in their first match and lost both by a big margin. 1992 WI won by 10 wickets and 2019 WI won by 7 wickets.
3. In both WC, Pakistan bounce back in second match and won. 1992 against Zimbabwe and 2019 against England.
4.In both WC the third match played by Pakistan was abandoned due to rain. In 1992 because of that abandoned match Pakistan got 1 points when they were about to loss the game. That 1 point helped Pakistan to finish at 4th position, later Pak qualified for semi finals ahead of Australia even though having lesser run rate than them.
5. In 1992 world cup, New Zealand finished top at the end of Round Robin stage. In current season also New Zealand looking good and won their first two matches. Even England were considered as strongest in 1992 world cup as well as in 2019 world cup.
