ICC World Cup 2019 Match 3 - Newzealand Vs Srilanka, Kiwi's pure domination

ICC World Cup 2019

Match 3 - Newzealand Vs Srilanka

Kiwi's pure domination

On the weekend morning third match of ICC world cup 2019 played between New Zealand and Sri lanka. Nothing we can analyse about this match. Everyone knows it will be a damn sure win for New Zealand and ofcourse match result also like that. But the previous champion atleast should have give some tough competition to the Kiwi's. Before the start of tournament itself everyone knows New Zealand is one of the team will play in semi finals as per the cricket experts prediction. On the other side Sri lanka came to play world cup as weakest among all the 10 teams. They completely depend on Mathews, Thisara Perera and Malinga. As like the second match of the tournament this match also went one sided with a low scoring chase. Sri lanka didnt put any pressure over New Zealand at any time.

Sri lanka bat first with Lahiru Thirimanne and the skipper Dimuth Karunaratne. Matt Henry bowled the first over of the innings. Thirimanne scored a boundary in first ball itself. But Matt Henry sent him pavilion in next ball by lbw. Even Umpire didnt gave out. But Williamson confidently went for review and got him. Kusal Perera and Dimuth fought for some overs. But Perera played some unnecessary shot in the first ball of 9th over and caught with top edge and this wicket also for Henry. Kusal Mendis another young hope came to bat. But he was taken at slip in the very first ball he faced. Matt Henry got his third wicket and had chance for taking first hattrick of WC2019 in next ball. But De Silva beat that ball and stopped him from taking hattrick. Thats it from Sri lankan side Dimuth, basically a test player showed his test skill in this match by playing selected ball and keeping his wicket. But on the other end no one stand and gave support. If Henry collapsed the top order Lockie Ferguson wiped the middle order batting of lankas. Thisara Perera alone scored 27 runs with 2 sixes, those are the only sixes scored by Sri lankan team in this match, helped lanka to surpass 100 runs. At the end Sri lanka went all out for 136 in 29.2 overs. Captain Dimuth Karunaratne remains not out and scored fifty 52* runs from 84 balls. Henry and Ferguson took 3 wickets each. Others took 1 each.

The same happened like previous match, a low scoring chase. Even Windies lost three wickets while chasing but Kiwi's didnt lose that too. Both Martin Guptil and Colin Munro itself finished the game. Both scored fifties in this match.  In very first over of the match itself, Sri lanka missed a chance of taking Guptil wicket. While facing Malinga, Guptil tried to play that ball and it got edge went to slip. But slip fielder standing a bit behind than expected and missed the catch. Except this Kiwi's have not done any mistakes. Initially Guptil took time to meet the ball at right point. Most of his shot went edge. Later he connect the ball perfectly and crossed Munro in scoring. Munro not even standing in crease. He played many shot by coming down the crease. New Zealand finished the chase at 17th over first ball itself. Guptil remains not out with 73 runs from 51 balls with 8 boundaries and 2 sixes. Colin Munro scored 58*runs from 47 balls with 6 boundaries and a six. New Zealand won the match by 10 wickets with 205 balls remaining.

Man of the Match: Matt Henry

New Zealand stands second at the points table with 5.754 as run rate. Windies are at top with superior runrate 5.802. Srilanka going to play against Afghanistan in their next match on tuesday. If they win against Afghanistan, that is enough for them in this world cup. If they lost definitely they will finished as bottom at the end of group stage.
