ICC World Cup 2019

Match 25 - South Africa Vs New Zealand

Williamson made it for Kiwi
If someone asked me, which two things cant be separated in cricket?? Without taking a micro second i will reply its South Africa and Rain. Yes today the match was delayed due to rain. The wet out field made by rain results in the delay of toss and the overs were reduced to 49 each side. More over the toss was done at 11:30 AM only. Most Expected South African side were almost at the edge of tournament. They had only 1 win from 5 games, that too against Afghanistan. They have to win remaining matches to think of semi final stage. So it became a must win game for protea to sustain in ICC WC 2019. On the other side the black caps not even faced a single loss in the tournament looking solid to enter semi final. Rain knows its a crucial match for South Africa thats why it came. Lets see how much done by rain in this match.

Whenever the team captains seeing the outfield they want to bowl first in order to avoid batting difficulty. Kane Williamson did that exactly. South Africans started the innings with Quinton De cock and Hashim Amla. As expected the pitch became too tough for batting. Even hitter De cock struggling to score runs. But a player like Amla its a joyful moment in playing these kind of pitches. Their only motto is not to lose wickets. Boult used the pitch well and bowled Decock for 5 runs. Inform skipper Faf Du plesis didnt sustain for long and lost his wicket for 23 runs. Now somewhat the pitch turns to score singles. Amla scored his half century and gone for 55 runs from 83 balls. Markram scored 38 runs. Dussen and Miller took game in their hands. They know South Africa didnt have proper batsmen other than these two. So they didnt made any wrong shots and sustained for next 12 overs. Miller gone for 36 runs at 43rd over. After that Dussen  hit some sixes and completed his half century. Finally South Africa scored 241 runs for 6 wickets loss at the end of 49th over. Lockie Ferguson grabs 3 wickets for NZ. But Grandhomme and Henry bowled economically by giving 67 runs from 20 overs.

Now its Black caps turn to chase the target. One good sign for South African fans Lungi Ngidi back to the show after injury. Its upto Guptil and Munro to face the ferocious bowling of Ngidi, Rabada and Morris. As expected munro caught and bowl by Rabada in 3rd over itself. Guptil went for 35 runs by means of hit wicket. Chris Morris take care of the dangerous Taylor and Latham. He sent both to pavilion for 1 run each. But like Amla, Kane Williamson also loved this pitch. He became an headache for South African bowler. Jimmy Neesham supported him well by playing out of his original attacking game. But Neesham lost his wicket to morris for 23 runs. Colin grandhomme played some essential knock for Kiwi and score half century 60 runs from 47 balls with 5 boundaries and 2 sixes. Ngidi sent him pavilion at 48th over. Black caps need 8 runs to win from last over. Kane Williamdon didnt do any mistake he directly smashed first ball to six and second ball to four takes NZ home with 4 balls remaining and completed his century too. Chris morris took 3 wickets for protea but it went in vein. Williamson ultra edge issue became a controversy now. Imran Tahir bowled his last over, williamson tried to hit that ball was caught by keeper Decock. But Umpire didnt gave out for him. Faf discussed with decock and decided not to go with review. Later in ultra edge it showing there is a small edge in bat. If Kane would have walked to pavilion that time, South Africa might be the winner of this game.

Man of the Match: Kane Williamson (106 runs from 138 balls with 9 fours and 1 six)

New Zealand moved to top of the table with this win. But for South Africa they were out of the tournament now. If any surprise happen they may get chance that too based on other team performance. This is the worst season played by South Africa in world cup it seems. SA cricket board should have identify the problems and have to fix this before going to play T20 world cup at Australia. Already Faf announced like he will retire after that world cup.
