Young Avishka and Pooran scored maiden world cup century......

                                     " A Fernando a young right hand batsman is there to open with Karunaratne" this line we wrote at the time of analysing each and every team squad strength. We wrote those lines just because of that guys record list A and first class matches. Sri lanka used Fernando from past 3 games only and he is justified his selected with some decent knocks. But today he scored his maiden world cup century against the strong Windies bowling and helped Sri lanka to set a huge target of 339 runs for the Carribean Kings. Avishka is the only Sri lankan player to score century in this world cup now. Since Windies already out of tournament, its must win game for Sri lanka with a big margin to survive in the race of semi finals. Jason Holder made a wrong decision by selecting to bowl after winning toss. He thought like Sri lankan has never crossed 300 runs in this tournament. So its easy to restrict them less than 250 runs and will chase the target before 30 overs. 

                                      Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Perera gave a good start for Lanka, played till 15th over and scored 93 runs for the first wicket. Windies skipper Holder took Dimuth for 32 runs. Then AFernando and KPerera played some beautiful innings and slowly taking Sri lanka to 200 runs. Kusal Perera lost his wicket for 64 runs from 51 balls after reaching his fifty. Kusal Mendis supported Fernando at middle and lost his wicket for 39 runs. Ex captain Mathews satisfied with 26 runs. Fernando reached his maiden century and also took Sri lanka more than 300 runs. Finally Cottrell made a breakthrough by taking AFernando for 104 runs from 103 balls with 9 boundaries and 2 sixes. Thirimanne remains not out with 45 runs and Sri lanka finished their innings with 338/6. Jason Holder took 2 wickets. Shanon Gabriel who came as replacement for injured Roach went expensive with economy 9.60 from 5 overs.

                                      Opening partnership is the trumph card while chasing big targets. But Windies openers didnt gave any decent partnership till today in this tournament. Once again Lasith Malinga showed his class and took Sunil Ambris and Shai Hope for 5 runs. The pressure now on Chris Gayle, he realised his responsibility and played some sensible innings by playing good shot in bad length balls. But he misjudged Rajitha's length and played wrong shot which results in cost of his wicket for 35 runs with a four and 2 sixes. Its upto Pooran and Hetmyer now, so far in this tournament both batted well. A mix up between both created many run out chances, but they failed to correct it. Finally Hemtyer gone for 29 runs by  a direct throw from Dhananjaya DeSilva. Not only this mix up, Windies lost 3 wickets for runout in this match. Jason Holder played beautiful knock of 26 from 26 balls but caught by a sub fielder. Carlos Brathwaite lost his wicket by a run out. Pooran striked the ball brathwaite started to run but the ball touched Udana hands and hit the stumps. Pooran scored his half century and increased his strike rate. Fabian Allen a new hero came to fill the gap made by Dwayne Bravo score half century 51 runs from 32 balls with 7 boundaries and a six. Nicholas Pooran fought like a lone Warrior and scored his maiden ODI as well as world cup century from 92 balls. Dimuth gave 48th over to Mathews, last time he bowled in December 2017. But in first ball itself he took Pooran for 118 runs from 103 balls with 11 boundaries and 4 sixes. That one over from Mathews conceding 3 runs and pooran wicket steals the match for Sri lanka. Windies lost the chase by a margin of  23 runs.

                                     Happy to see that both young batsmen of teams scoring their maiden century in this match. Hope both will became the stars of their respective teams in future. Windies may lost the match it doesnt matters but the tough challenge given by them even losing their key batsmen and a lone stand innings from Nicholas Pooran deserved a big applause from entire cricket fans. Sri lanka won the game and moved one step up to 6th position with 8 points. Still they had one match left with India if they win also they cant able to qualify for semi finals. Because their run rate too worst with -0.934, its too worst in this situation. But it wont be a bad tournament for Sri lanka as everyone predicted. Definitely they will happy with 

their performance.

                                      Tomorrow the big match between India and Bangladesh, where Bangladesh gonna fight against their neighbours to sustain in the competition for semi finalist. If they lose Pakistan will be the one who became happy as losing one competitor in semifinal qualifier.
