Chennai city is very close to the border of Andhra Pradesh. Many places there at Tamil nadu border and Nagalapuram is one among that. It is located at the eastern ghats just 90kms away from chennai. Nagalapuram having two entrances both on east side and west side. When compared to east side west side looking promising for trek, even having place to park your vehicles. The above image describe you the route for Nagalapuram from Chennai CMBT bus stand. Twelve people with 6 bikes started our journey from CMBT.

From Koyambedu we took Madhavaram road. After reaching madhavaram a left turn guided us to reach periyapalayam via shozhavaram. Then we reached Uthukkottai, the border of tamilnadu after that we entered Andhra and reached a village named "Pichattur" which is the gate way for entering Nagala forest.

Image of pichatur dam from Google

Better to complete your breackfast at pichattur itself, because you wont find any shops after that. From Pichattur need to take right and drive along the pichattur dam. Before few years that road is a single one without proper finish. But now they put good road with few speed breakers. After some 15 mins of journey we reached the Nagalapuram west parking point. Before and all no separate parking point for this spot. But now the local peoples around there cleared the ground and made that as parking. They charging some amount for that.

Lake at the foot of Nagalapuram hill west

Path around the lake to enter forest

Nagalapuram trek invited us with a lake at its foot. The lake looks to silent without any disturbance not even waves. Simply you can see the reflection of Nagala hills in that water clearly. It looks like someone just mirrored the hill horizontally. We walked around the lake at the end we started entering the forest. Initially small shrubs and plants we saw. After some 15 mins of walk you can see many giant forest trees which made the forest dense. The dense of tree preventing us from the sun rays and providing some chill breeze.

small stream at the entrance of forest

A small stream welcomed us at the entrance of the hill. The water looks too clear and chill, always remember running waters are healthy than the water we are having inside city. Dont hestitate to drink that water, we filled our bottles in that stream and started our trek. On the way we saw two big pools. One is a small one with sliding rock. Many people used to take bath in that. But be cautious that rock is too slippery. Be safe and play in that pool.

Within 10mins of walk, we saw the 2nd pool. It is quite bigger than the first one. We thought to spend our time there. Its too crowded, so we decided to go to the third pool at top. The trek path for third pool is not so easy as like first and second pool. After some 30 mins walk we reached the third pool and which showed us the heaven inside that forest. We didnt expect such a big pool without any humans with a falls.

falls at third pool

3rd pool

place near 3rd pool for non swimmers having 5ft depth

Third pool is too deep. Even we cant able to find the floor, that much depth there. People who knows proper swimming can have fun there. People who doesnt know swimming can have fun next to that pool. At the exit of pool a small pool is there with just 5.5ft depth. There water is too clear so we can see the floor clearly. Keep your backpacks away from the monkeys. Better keep your eyes on luggage's too. We spent almost two hours in that pool. Still its not sufficient for us. Our mind closely attached to that place along with nature. We started to return by 2pm and reached foot within a hour. We took some rest at the stream. Lot of small fishes there gave us a experience of having fish massage. Its natures spa dont forget to experience it.

sunset at nagala lake

Eastern Ghats is the home for some animals likes boa, wolves, cheetah, bear, monkeys etc., Its difficult to see these animals during your trek. They wont come wherever humans there. So no need to worry about animals you can completely enjoy the trek. I saw many people used to have night camp there. Im not saying its wrong. But, it may disturb the wild animals there, because that forest is their home not for us. We noticed one thing many people used to have drinks at all three pools. They had with fun, but they forget to bring the bottles back with them. Simply those idiotic morons left bottles inside the forest itself and making the forest dirty. The lake look too gorgeous during sunset because of the red soil. We started around 5:30pm from there and reached chennai around 8pm.

small fishes will give you the experience of fish spa

We went twice to Nagalapuram west, one time for fun trek and other time for clean up trek. At the time of clean up we collect more than 20 bags of scraps including bottles, plactics and junk food covers. We didnt collect the papers, because those can be easily degradable. After clean up also we didnt feel any change there. That much we human polluted that place. Second time we went for fun trek with friends after two years. But this time we found many people there as well as much scraps more than first trip. Felt bad after seeing this, admit we are the one ruining the nature.

If you have any snacks there, please keep the plastic covers in your bag, dont throw simply in that forest. If you want to have drink, please bring those bottles while returning. Some peoples used to cook food there. Please dont do those kind of shit activities. It may leads to forest fire. I request you people, please try to enjoy the trek without disturbing the nature and animals.
