August 14th, many cricket fans may not aware of this day. But they should know about this. Because August 14th is not an ordinary day as like the remaining days in a year. It is the day which connecting the godfather and god of cricket. Simply its the ending of Don Bradman innings and starting of Sachin Tendulkar innings. Not only this many interesting factors about these two on August 14th is waiting for you.
Before the last test match played by Don Bradman, his average is more than 100 in test cricket. It was an Ashes series, the mighty Aussies lead the tournament with 3-0 and confirmed the trophy. Last game of that series started on August 14th, 1948. Many fans remembered this was the last match played by Bradman in cricket. England bat first went all out for just 52 runs. On the same day itself Australian openers scored more than 117 runs for first wicket. Later the god father of cricket came to crease, shockingly Bradman went out for a duck that too in the second ball he faced. Because of this duck his average went less than 100. Australia won that match without batting their 2nd innings. So Bradman didnt get a chance to play and ends up his cricket career with 99.94 as average.
After 42 years August 14th 1990, 19 year old Sachin Tendulkar played in a test match against the same England in a test series. The first match was won by England and the second match day 5 fell on August 14th. India need to chase 408 runs to win the match on last day. Except young Sachin no other batsmen played well. Sachin tried to draw the match and finally he did it. He scored his maiden century 119 runs in International cricket. Later he scored 100 centuries in International Cricket.
Two legends, both played in different period. Somehow a day connected them, for one its an ending point, for another it became a starting point.
