Rashid Khan not yet 21, still won first test match for his team as a captain
World cricket fans experienced lot of surprising moments in this week. A day before defending world champions England lost two matches in the ongoing Ashes, Australia defend the ashes title under the captaincy of Tim Paine even the biggies Ponting and Clarke cant able to make it. But the most surprising moment happened today which creates a new history in world cricket history. Afghanistan, the last kid of test cricket won the first ever test match and won the series too against Bangladesh. The win became more delightful, because afghanistan won under the captaincy of a young man who has not even crossed 21 years, Rashid Khan.
Before going to the reasons of Bangladesh loss in this match. We should appreciate the Afghan team. Unlike other nations they are not having rich cricket board can able to spend crores for their players. They are not having proper home ground inside their country and thats the reason they are using Noida ground as their home. A country surrounded with sounds of terrorism, blasts and bullets now just stood with proud just because of the afghan cricket team. This is not the kind of victory achieved by Steve Waugh or Dhoni or Vaughan or Ponting, this is more than that.
Bangladesh faced the visitor at chattogram. Rashid won the toss and decided to bat first. The Bangla team under world cup hero Shakib Al Hasan bowled well. Particularly Taijul Islam bowled exceptionally and took 4 wickets. But the maiden century from Rahmat Shah (102 runs) and half century from Asghar Afghan (92 runs) increased Afghan score at middle order. Tail ender Zazai (41 runs) and Rashid (51 runs) helped Afghan to finish 342 runs in their first innings. Hosts Bangladesh went all out for just 205 runs with Rashid Khan's 5 wicket haul and Nabi's 3 wicket, who is playing at their last test match.
With the lead of 137 runs Afghan posted another wonderful innings with 260 runs. Asghar's another half century (50 runs), Zadran's 87 runs and Zazai 48 runs set 398 runs target for Bangladesh. One more batting collapse from Bangladesh in 4th innings went all out for 173 runs. Shakib and Islam alone crossed 40+ runs. Another brilliant bowling from rashid khan added 6 wickets in his pocket. Bangladesh played just 62 overs in 4th innings. It seems like they under estimated the Afghans in test match. Even they were not in the mood of saving the match. They tried for a win and ends up with loss. Luckily Afghanistan is not a participant of World test championship otherwise Bangladesh may lost 120 points in this tournament.
1. Rashid Khan became the first Afghanistan took 10 wicket haul in a test match. He became the first Afghan test captain of the winning team and also the man of the match.
2. Rahmat Shah (102 runs) became the first Afghan to score century in test match.
3. Asghar Afghan became the first Afghan batsman who scored double century in both innings of a test match (92 and 50 runs)
4. Rashid Khan became the first afghan cricketer scoring half century (51 runs) and 10 wicket haul (11 wickets) in a test match.
Man of the match: Rashid Khan ( 11wickets and a half century in first innings)
No one expect this win from Afghan but they achieved it with a team effort. This is the last ever test match for the experienced Afghan player as well as their ex captain Mohammed Nabi. He finished his test career with 4 wickets and 8 runs in last match. Rashid Khan presented a worthy send off for this talented player with a memorable win. Obviously Rashid Khan is the man of the match, during presentation he replied like that he wants to dedicated the award to Nabi.
