The lake is so called as "Lonar Lake" which is located in Buldhana district of state Maharashtra. This amazing lake is around 500 km away from Mumbai city. Before this incident itself this lake became famous among researchers and nature enthusiast. Because this lake is not created by any humans. It having an old history of around 50000 years. Whoop!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, this lake was created by a meteor which crashed on earth surface around 50000 years back. It also have other name as "Lonar Crater". Many crater lakes are there like this in the world. Lonar lake is the third biggest crater lake in the world. This lake is also declared as National Geo-Historical Monument. Now you understand how this lake got these many attention.

Lets go through the important point. Why this crater lake turned pink? Sources said this is not the first time, the lake basically have saline nature. When ever the pH level goes more than 7.5 it is base. That effect of base results in change in color. Now the pH level of water in this lake reached around 10.5 which is the reason for pink color. This 1.2 km diameter lake does not having Oxygen after 1 meter depth. Many algae were found in the lake, which also contribute to change the color.  A lake in Iran also having the same kind of property as like Lunar and changing color in recent years. Increase of salinity is the main reason for the color change.

The place where Lonar lake located didnt receive proper rainfall in recent years. It results in no addition of water in lake and lost more water via evaporation. So the salinity increases and turned the lake as pink. Anyway such a mysterious lake is there in India itself.
