Kame Gowda, Lake man of Karnataka.... Should know about this 82 yrs old shephard....

Kame Gowda honoured by H.D. Kumaraswamy

Scientists and experts say "If world war three came in future, water will be the only reason". Water, the element occupied nearly 3/4th of Earth surface. But around 1% only feasible for drinking as well as for irrigation purpose. Its quite rare to see an human trying to save water while using. Even few animals like monkeys, dogs also have some common sense like closing taps after using it. But we humans never care about that. After drained the ground water, we moved to spoil rivers by taking sand from it, now we are purifying the sea water and makes it fit for drink. Some people went too advance by creating water from the atmosphere. But no one cares about the rain water.

Few people or few NGO's trying to improve the ground water level by planting trees and cleaning water bodies. We heard about the "Mountain Man of India Dasrat Manjhi". Even a movie came about him. Like him a man from South India spent nearly 40 years and dig 16 water bodies lakes and ponds without any help from others. He is 82 years old now.

His name is "Kame Gowda". He is a Shephard.

Still I wonder why simple people are always doing bigger things but not the rich ones? or the ones who are in the power of authority?

Kame Gowda belongs to Malavalli Taluk, Mandya district of Karnataka is basically a shephard by occupation. Mandya district is one of the dry region which completely depends on River Cauvery for irrigation. Kame Gowda dig many water bodies to quench the thirst of his goats and other animals. Those empty lakes and ponds gets filled by water when it rains there. Simple thing is he saved rain water alone by digging ponds and lakes. It is more than enough to feed cattle. Because of those water bodies ground water level increased around this village. Looks like simple thing right?? Nope digging alone is the biggest job. He spent around 40 years to complete this.

Gowda is 82 now. In 2018 only government of Karnataka honored him by giving highest award of the state "Karnataka Rajyotsava" and "Basavasri".  Along with this award Karnataka government gave 1 lakh of cash and 25 gram gold coin.

Kame Gowda showed his big heart once again by creating two more water bodies with this reward.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Lake man for his service via "Mann ki Baat" program on June 28, 2020. Kame Gowda's biggest dream is to visit famous temples inside the state. So Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) fulfill his dream by providing a pass on July 2nd 2020, with the help of this pass Kame can go anywhere inside the state in any class for free throughout his lifetime.
