Crash worthiness
India tops the list in terms of fatality rate by road accidents. According to statistics around 1.50 lakhs people losing their lives due to accidents. So it is important for an vehicle to ensure passengers safety inside the vehicle as well as outside as pedestrians. Those numbers can be reduced effectively if the cars passed for crash test. Higher strength and safety cars can reduce fatality rate considerably. Its easy for a car to pass Bharat NCAP regulations until the Car Safety Program for India launched by GNCAP in 2014. It makes the availability of safety accessories like dual front airbags in entry level segment of a car. Moreover it creates some awareness to customers to choose cars in terms of safety not by means of price or mileage.
Even car brands understanding customer mindsets and trying to improve the quality of cars. Now an entry level cars in India also having the safety features as like as luxury models. It is not acceptable to compare those cars with luxury models. Still car makers trying to give safety as much as possible. Global New Car Assessment Program (GNCAP) recently released the list of 38 safest cars in India. Now we are going to see the cars at top 10 in this list and how much they scored in this test.
10. Tata Zest
Tata Zest at tenth in this list. The sedan version of Tata failed to make an impact in Indian market as like its elder brother Indigo CS. Many reasons are there for its failure and the major one is lack of promotion, lack of attractive design. Still that car remains one of the safest car in India. Zest is the base for Tata cars in getting highest safety ratings nowadays.
9. Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza
Many people thought there is no relation between quality and Maruti Suzuki cars. Because Maruti Suzuki cars fails to save lives during accident. Eventhough Maruti cars are the king of Indian roads, we have to admit those cars not have much quality to save passengers. But in recent times Maruti took another step towards safety and passed in GNCAP test with Ertiga and Brezza. And Vitara Brezze, the B segment SUV became one of the safest cars in India.
8. Toyota Etios
The synonym of quality car should be renamed as Toyota. That much of quality and reliability does toyota delivers. We can see many old toyota cars still running on roads. "Etios" is one of the safest cars in Indian market. It saves many lives from accident and holds eighth place in this list.
7. Mahindra Marazzo
Mahindra Marazzo, the new competitor for Toyota Innova Crysta in India grabs seventh place in this list. The seven seater was promoted as holds the shape of shark fish. Yes it does, in terms of look as well as in sturdiness. But its not enough beat their competitor Innova. Hope mahindra will improve this shark in future to sustain in market.
6. Volkswagen POLO
World's biggest car maker Volkswagen stands at sixth in this place. VW cars are one of the safest build cars in the world. They enters India market with iconic hatchback model POLO. Still Polo is favorite for many youngsters, particularly those who are enthusiast in driving. Powerful POLO created a new color in automobile world as POLO RED. People have that much craze on the red colored POLO's. Of course Polo is the first Indian car passed in GNCAP test.
5. Tata Tiago and Tata Tigor
Tata's identical twin brothers Tigor and Tiago shares fifth spot in this list. Both was created under same platform. And of course both looking similar except the segment. Tigor is a sedan and Tiago is an hatchback.
4. Tata Nexon (manufactured before 2019) 3. Tata Nexon (manufactured after 2019)
Its not a joke or fake new, third and fourth spot belongs to same car Tata Nexon. How come a same car grabs two spot in this list??? Bit confusing right???? Actually Tata Nexon manufactured before 2019 scored 4 out of 5 in adult rating. But Tata was not happy with the result. They improved the quality and scored 5 out of 5 now. So Nexon manufactured before 2019 got 4 star ratings and the same car manufactured after Dec 2019 got 5 star rating.
2. Tata Altroz
Again a Tata Product in this list. Their recent launch in Premium Hatchback segment "Tata Altroz" became the safest cars among Tata models. Unlike Nexon, Altroz scored 5 out of 5 in adult rating. But scored 3 out of 5 in child safety rating made Altroz to stand at second.
1. Mahindra XUV 300
And finally Mahindra owned the safest car maker in India with their new model XUV300. This car has scored 5 out of 5 rating in Adult safety and 4 out of 5 in child safety. The robust look and aesthetic were taken from its big brother XUV 500, which is already a massive hit Indian market. And XUV 300 continues the legacy.
Out of 10 cars in this list 7 were from Indian automotive companies. It clearly states that Indian based automotive companies focusing more on vehicle safety along with budget to attract customers. Many automotive biggies were not in this list except Volkswagen and Toyota. Somehow car buyers in India going to drive some safe cars on Indian roads.
