Part 11 - Be aware of Afghan???

One day matches are always interesting because of unpredictable and a definite win. Some time we will get tie as a result. May be all the ICC trophies won by top teams but those tournament gives lot of unexpected results like non test playing nation win a match against a top team. This is not new for world cup cricket.
* It started from 1979 itself India was beaten by Srilanka in their first world cup.
* Zimbabwe beat Australia in 1983 world cup at group stage.
* Bangladesh beat pakistan in 1999 world cup. Eventhough pakistan played finals in that tournament.
* In 2003 world cup Kenya beat both Srilanka and Bangladesh which makes the path for them to enter super six. Later they beat Zimbabwe in super six and played semifinals against India. Kenya became the first team enter semifinals among non test playing nation.
* Bangladesh beat India in 2007 world cup. In the same tournament Ireland beat Pakistan too.
* 2011 world cup always unforgettable for England they lost to Ireland by 3 wickets at group stage eventhough England set 328 runs as target.
* In 2015 world cup Bangladesh beat England by 15 runs at group stage. And Ireland beat West Indies, once again Ireland chased a target of more than 300 runs as like their previous worldcup win against England.
* In 2019 ?????
Stats always told that we should not understimate the minnows in world cup. But this year only 10 teams are participating based on their ICC ODI ranking. First 8 teams at ODI ranking qualified directly to play world cup. West Indies and Afghanistan alone played qualifying matches and enter world cup. Afghanistan is definitely a fast developing nation in cricket history. With in few years they came to play world cup. They not having that much history like other teams.
Afghans played their first world cup in 2015 at Australia. In that they beat Scotland by 1 wicket and registered their first win in world cup. Its almost 4 years now they were no more minnows. They got honour of test playing nation. First match they played against India. May be they lost due to inexperience. Afghans are always dangerous at short format games. Not sure whether they will win many matches in this world cup. But definitely they will shock to a big team. Even they tied a match against India in asia cup. So other teams BE AWARE OF AFGHANS.
Afghanistan Squad for World Cup 2019:
Afghanistan going to play this world cup 2019 under the captainship of Gulbadi Naib. They have lot of talented players Mohammed Shehzad their wicket keeper is like a junior Sehwagh. Ofcourse we know about Rashid Khan and Mohammed Nabi they are the key players for Afghanistan. In next post we will discuss about the team strength and predictable playing XI for world cup.
