Part 13 - Fate or nervous, Why Proteas cant able to win World Cup????

Some mysterious in the world does not having any answer in the world. What is happening in Area 51? What's happening to ships and aircrafts while crossing Bermuda Triangle? How Trumph became president of United States? And Why South Africa cant able to lift the World Cup???? No scarcity in terms of quality players, had a player as fore runner for fielding to entire world, having lot of world class all rounders, their captains are always best in guiding team and individually performing also, their speeds always a nightmare for opponent team batsmen. Still they cant able to win atleast a single ICC trophy. When chasing team afraid to chase if the target was more than 300 runs, they created a record chasing of 434 runs against Australia in the first ever 400 plus score match in ODI history. In this post we will discuss many thing about the problems facing by South African team during big tournaments.
World Cup Journey:
1992 - Semi finals
1996 - Quarter Finals
1999 - Semi Finals
2003 - Group Stage
2007 - Semi Finals
2011 - Quarter Finals
2015 - Semi Finals
South Africa didnt play the first four world cup tournaments due to the racism issue in cricket as well as in Africa. They played their first world cup in 1992 with coloured jersey. Everyone stunned by their performance but rain played completely in the semi final match against England. This was the worst ever DL method defeat by any team. Once South Africa were about to chase the target. But rain came and the score was redefined like South Africa need to get 23 runs from 1 ball. Is that possible?? no right so South Africa return to home. They never knew the relationship between rain and their team will continue for so many years.
In 1996, they lost to West Indies at Quarter finals. In 1999 once again they entered in Semi finals, but this time opponent was the dangerous Australia. Once again luck doesnt favours South Africa, the match was end with a tie both team scored 213 runs. But Australia progressed to finals because of their superior runrate at group six stage. Eventhough both teams secured 6 points in super six stage the runrate put an end to South African's dream.
2003 world cup is not a normal one. Because South Africa is the host, they have lot of confidence like atleast this time they can win the trophy. But this became the worst ever world cup for South Africa. They didnt clear the group stage itself. They lost the first match itself against West Indies. One more time DL calculation played in south africa's game. They tied a must win match against Sri lanka in their last group match. But South African's came stronger back in 2007. SA entered the tournament as a top ranking team in ODI. Again they lost in semifinals.
In 2011 world cup they finished their journey at quarter finals itself. They were very strong at that time. They finished as top in their group. But again the nervousness at knockout stage continuous. SA went all out for 172 runs while chasing minimum target of 221 runs against New Zealand. Soldiers never give up, South Africa back with a bang again in 2015 world cup. They were consider as the strongest team in that world cup. As expected they smashed everyone in the series except India. Once again they came to semi finals against New Zealand.
Both SA and NZ have not crossed semi finals in world cup history. Cricket fans too love both of them. Again South Africa lost the match. Once again DL method came because of rain. Match reduced to 43 overs each side. But NZ Elliot steals victory from South Africans. Thats is worst moment for SA and cricket fans Morkel, Abd cried in ground itself. Steyn and Faf kneel down it pitch and trying to digest that defeat.
Squad for World Cup 2015:
AB Devilliers is no more in southafrican cricket now. Steyn is also faced lot of injury in the past years. Morne Morkel retired. Still the current South African team looking powerful as like previous world cups. This time they were expecting their dream may true under the captaincy of Faf Du Plesis. In next posts will discuss about their squad strength and best XI for play.
