ODI cricket

One day international matches is the major contributor in the growth of modern cricket. Different colored jersey for each team, white ball, day and night matches, limited overs ensure a result and nail biting matches receives more attention from cricket fans. Because of one day matches only the culture of conducting World Cup as like in Football came into cricket. ODI matches is the father of modern limited over matches named T20. Many records created and broken in One day International matches. Scoring a century within 50 or 60 overs is the biggest achievement before 1990. Later Syed Anwar of Pakistan scored 194 runs in a 50 over match which remains unbeaten highest individual score till 2010. One more guy Charles Coventary of Zimbabwe also scored 194 runs, but cant able to surpass Anwar's record.

Before 2010 many people thought scoring a double century in ODI is impossible. But once again the little master proved that it is possible. Sachin Tendulkar scored 200 runs in 2010 which boosted many young players to hit double century. Virendra Sehwagh, Rohit Sharma, Chris Gayle, Martin Guptil, Fakhar Zaman and the list will keep on increase in future. More over Rohit did it thrice and crossed 250+ too.

Apart from the above records as like in test matches Sachin Tendulkar holds the highest run scorer in One day International cricket too. Lets see who and all there in the top five most runs scorer in ODI calendar year.

5. Maththew Hayden (Australia)

Australian destructive opening batsman Mathew Hayden grabs fifth spot in this list. Hayden is one of the best opening batsman in Australia's cricket history. He played many match winning destructive knock along with is left hand partner Adam Gilchrist. Hayden is at the peak of his career in 2007 scored 1601 runs from 33 matches. In the same year Australians won their fourth world cup including hat trick title. The Lord of Mangoose bat has scored 5 centuries and 6  half centuries with 181* as his career best against Zimbabwe

Those 181 runs remains the highest individual score for Australian batsman in ODI until Shane Watson broke it by scoring 185 in 2011.

4. Sachin Tendulkar (India)

Whenever we look for some records in cricket history, it wont exists without this name Sachin Tendulkar. Once again Little Master steps his foot in this list too. In 1996 alone Sachin scored 1611 runs from 32 matches with 6 centuries and 9 half centuries. But his best is just 137 runs in 1996. In between 100 - 137 he has 6 numbers. Apart from this Sachin never lost his wicket for a duck in this year. No duck for 32 innings. Eye raising performance from Little Master.

3. Rahul Dravid (India)

The Great wall of India, Rahul Dravid grabs third place in this list. Many people thought Dravid is a proper test batsman. But the truth is he is also a good ODI batsman and thats the reason he scored 10000+ runs in ODI too. In the year 1999 Dravid scored 1761 runs from 43 matches with 6 centuries and 8 half centuries. Dravid scored his ODI best score 153 runs in this year only.  Apart from these Dravid played two best ever ODI partnership in the same year. 331 runs along with Sachin against New Zealand and 318 runs along with Ganguly against Sri Lanka.

Those 153 runs remains the best score for wicket keeping batsman in India until MS Dhoni smased 183 against Sri Lanka.

2. Sourav Ganguly (India)

One more Indian batsman in this list. Sourav Ganguly, the man behind the reason of powerful team India in last two decades. This left hand batting all rounder is the best captain for India till today. His aggressive approach inside and outside pitch stimulates many young players. Sourav scored 1761 runs from 41 matches in 1999 alone. He scored 4 centuries and 10 half centuries with his career best 183 runs against Sri Lanka in world cup 1999. How can world cricket will forget this knock??? The god of offside smashed every Sri Lankan bowlers to boundaries especially world's best Muralidharan.

Those 183 runs is the best score by Indian batsman in ODI at that time. But in the same year Sachin scored 186 runs against NZ and broke this record.

1. Sachin Tendulkar (India)

Sachin's furious knock at Sharjah

In the title itself we mentioned one batsman registered his name twice in this list, who else it would be other than Sachin. Many times Sachin scored more than 1000 runs in an ODI calendar year. But 1998 is the best, because Sachin scored 1894 runs from 34 matches more specifically from 33 innings with an average of 65+. Master Blaster has scored 9 centuries and 7 half centuries in this year alone. He played at a strike of whooping 102. A small example for his form in 1998 is the Sharjah cup finals and league against Australia. Those two matches are nightmare for Steve Waugh and his team.

Sachin smashed 188 boundaries and 40 sixes in this year. As like in 1996 Sachin never lost his wicket for a duck in 1998 too.

Till today those 9 centuries is also the maximum ODI century scored by a batsman in a calendar year. In test matches also 9 centuries is the maximum numbers scored by a batsman in a calendar year. Coincidence at its peak........

Indian batsmen completely dominated the above list. One more fact is all the above four players were played between 1990 - 2010. No other batsman who are playing now in this list. Records are always created to broken. If one creates a  record someone will break in future. Do you think who will break this humongous record created by Sachin Tendulkar? Leave your answer in the comment section
