Match 33 - New Zealand Vs Pakistan
Is 2019 World Cup repeating the history of 1992 World Cup???
It was a world cup tournament each and every team experienced atleast one defeat in league round except one team New Zealand until they met Pakistan. They lost only two matches in that tournament and both against Pakistan. One at their last league and another at the important semi final. Because of the win against New Zealand in league round Pakistan unexpectedly entered semi finals ahead of Australia and won the title too. Yes, it happened in 1992 world cup. Pakistan fans putting calculations like 2019 WC also going in the same manner. Like New Zealand didnt lose any match till yesterday and Pakistan's semi final chances are questionable. Not only this lot of similarities between this 2019 WC with 1992 WC with few changes. So both team fans expecting this match at Birmingham. Due to wet outfield the match started with a bit delay where the Black caps won the toss and decided to bat first.
Pakistan fans expected their team to repeat the same magic as did in 1992 WC. Mohammed Amir decided to full fill their wish with Guptil's wicket in his very first ball. Young Shaheen Afridi contributed well to Amir by taking Munro, Taylor and Latham. New Zealand became 46 for 4 from 12 overs. As usual skipper Williamson put an anchor at pitch and saved the team from further collapse. Destructive all rounder Jimmy Neesham played out of his original game and resemble like the copy of his captain. Shadab Khan put an end to their partnership by removing Kane Williamson for 41 runs from 69 balls. Its 83/5 now, everyone thought New Zealand wont even cross 150 runs. But a partnership between Neesham and Colin Grandhomme made their prediction wrong. Both played an extraordinary innings building score as well as keeping wickets. Finally a breakthrough happened in the form of runout. Grandhomme lost his wicket for 64 runs from 71 balls. Neesham last till the end for New Zealand and missed his maiden world cup century by 3 runs short. Neesham remains not out with 97* runs from 112 balls. Kiwis scored 237/6 at the end of 50 overs. Shaheen Afridi bowled too economically (2.80) and took 3 important wickets too. Surprisingly Amir went more expensive (67 runs from 10 overs) in this innings.
"Green"ades start the chase with Fakhar and Imam. After hitting two quick boundaries Fakhar lost his wicket to Boult. Imam survived till 11th over and lost his wicket for 19 runs to Ferguson. Kane Williamson made himself as parttime bowler and sent Hafeez to pavilion for 32 runs. Babar Azam completed his half century in this crucial time. Harris Sohail supported him well at middle overs. They both steadily takes Pakistan near the target. Harris Sohail continue his wonderful form from last game. Harris crossed his half century. Babar Awesome played wonderful innings and scored century from 124 balls with 11 boundaries. Just before the win Harris Sohail lost his wicket by a runout from Guptil. But Pakistan chased the target with 5 balls remaining. Sarfaraz Ahmed finished the chase with a boundary. Mitchell Santner and Matt Henry bowled economically for NewZealand. Trent Boult 42 dot balls and Shaheen Afridi 43 dot balls bowled in this match
Man of the Match: Babar Azam (101 runs from 127 balls with 11 boundaries)
New Zealand winning streak in world cup coming to end once again by the Pakistan team. In 1992 also Pakistan beat New Zealand by 7 wicket (in group match) and today by 6 wicket margin. Now Pakistan moved to sixth position with 7 points just behind Bangladesh with a lesser run rate. Still they need to face Afghanistan and Bangladesh. The match between Pakistan and Bangladesh will be the most anticipating match of this season now. If Pakistan beat Bangladesh in that match, they can easily beat Afghans and had lot of chances to enter semi final with 11 points. In case if Bangladesh win that match, they need to win the game against India to confirm their semi final spot.
