ICC World Cup 2019

Match 45 - Australia Vs South Africa

Before boarding flight Proteas changed the semi final clash......
Thats the end of league stage in ICC World cup 2019. Since already four semi final contestants were confirmed everyone thought this as just one more match for both Australia and South Africa. But Faf Du plesis and team made a big twist of this tournament which may rewrite the champions name in the trophy. Yes, the game was won by South Africa which made Australia to remain at 2nd place and India at 1st place. Now India going to play New Zealand at semi finals, were the Australians going to face their rivals England at semi. Is this a problem???? Definitely YES, Everyone thought Australia will face New Zealand and England will face India. If India face England at semi, definitely its a drawback for them. Because they have already lost to England at Birminghamm where the second semi final going to held. But now its changed into mini Ashes at Birminghamm. Who ever bat first at Birminghamm will get final spot thats sure. The match between India and New Zealand at league was called off due to rain. So they dont know about each others power. May be they met in practice match. But performing stage is different.

Earlier South Africa bat first and posted 325 runs for the loss of 6 wickets from 50 overs.Their only in form batsmen Faf Du Plesis and Van der Dussen dominated in this pitch. Faf scored a century (100 runs from 94 balls with 7 boundaries and 2 sixes) and Dussen missed his century by 5 runs (95 runs from 97 balls with 4 boundaries and 4 sixes). Amla was removed and Markram came to open bat with De cock. Markram gave a decent start with 34 runs and De cock scored his half century 52 runs from 51 balls. Australian bowlers gave 24 runs in the form of extras which is not a good sign for them before going to play semi finals. Lyon and Starc took 2 wickets each and Cummins added one in his account.

As like Lyon, South African spinner Imran Tahir played a major blow to Australian opening partnership by taking Aaron Finch for 3 runs. Faf learnt how to use Tahir in powerplay  from MS Dhoni in IPL.  Kawajah and Smith didnt sustain. One more disappointed knock from Stonis and Maxwell. Australians missing Mitchel Marsh now. But a great innings from David Warner's century (122 runs from 117 balls with 15 boundaries and 2 sixes) and Alex Carey (85 runs from 69 balls with 11 boundaries and a six) took Australia near to the target. Before the end of last ball of the innings Australia went all out for 315 runs. South Africa won the match by a close margin of 10 runs. Rabada (3wickets) and Pretorius (2 wickets with 2 maiden) played a major role in restricting Australia. More than that, the extras conceded by Australia (24 extras) became a villian for them. South Africa gave only 7 runs in extras, the difference between extras is 17 runs. Remember Australia lost the match by 10 runs margin which forced them to play against England in semi finals. Some how South Africa saved India by avoiding England at semi.

Man of the Match:  Faf Du Plesis (100 runs from 94 balls with 7 boundaries and 2 sixes)

South Africa finished this tournament with 7 points at 6th place now. Bangladesh were behind them in terms of run rate. This is the last world cup for Imran Tahir and Faf Du Plesis. Yes, Faf already announced his retirement like 2020 T20 world cup is the last in his career.

Still 3 matches left to know the champions of ICC World cup 2019. In first Semi finals Men in Blue gonna take Black caps at Manchester on coming tuesday. Second semi finals (mini Ashes) just gonna heat up the entire England, because it a clash between world cricket rivals, Australia gonna take England at Birminghamm on thursday.
